Companion Applets Exam 8 & Exam 9

Updated Videos & Companion Applets

Several lessons now come with an updated, interactive Companion Applet: a hands-on tool that runs right alongside the video. Follow the lesson with the applet open, and use its interactive features to see each idea play out exactly where the video points you to it.

You may notice that videos with accompanying applets are more detailed / longer than videos in the older format. Where older videos are meant to provide a higher-level overview to introduce the details supported in the Reading Summaries, the updated videos provide roughly as much detail as the Reading Summaries.

Expected Releases

Applets and updated videos for more substantive readings will be released throughout the course. Here's the expected timing by reading. These dates are estimates and may shift.

Using the Companion Applets

The videos are most effective when you have both the video and applet open together. Go back to the applet at any time to reinforce ideas.

  1. Open the lesson and its Companion Applet side by side: two windows, or two tabs you can flip between.
  2. Watch the video as usual. When it points you to the applet, pause there.
  3. Use the applet's interactive features to illustrate the idea: change the inputs and watch how the output responds.
  4. Once it clicks, resume the video and carry on to the next point.
